Pizza originated in Italy, but there is still much debate about the origin of its name. Some legend has it that the pizza originated from the story of Queen Margherita of Savoy of Italy, who visited Naples with her husband, King Umberto I, in June 1889. The visit took place after the unification of Italy's north and south, and the south was in need of reinforcement. During the trip, the Queen complained about the boring, repetitive French food, especially the prepared food. Upon receiving the request, Raffaele Esposito, the best pizza maker in 19th century Italy, prepared a new dish to welcome Queen Margherita, and that is how pizza Margherita was born, with the Queen's favorite ingredients, including tomatoes, mozzarella cheese and basil.

Coincidentally, the pizza was created in white, red and green, the colors of the Italian flag. Since then, Esposito named the pizza Margherita and has always called it that, creating a movement for everyone to follow. However, there are also conflicting opinions that Margherita is translated into Italian as “daisy” because the pizza when made resembles a daisy because of the mozzarella cheese and basil leaves. And for whatever reason, pizza Margherita is always considered a delicious, luxurious and easy-to-eat dish by most customers around the world.
The world's longest pizza was created in the port city of Salerno, Italy, for $12,000 by chef Renato Viola. The pizza is 20cm in diameter and is made from all-natural dough imported from Arabia, and is covered with pink salt from the Murray River, Australia. It took 72 hours to prepare and required the help of 80 pizza makers from all over the country who gathered in Milan. The toppings include three types of rare caviar, seven types of cheese and Alaskan lobster.
The World's Longest Pizza
It is estimated that one meter of pizza is made in 3 minutes and baked in 5 minutes. This new pizza beats the previous record (1.1415 km) set by Spanish chefs. The fair needed 800 tables to display the pizza before people lined up to cut it. And not only to serve the estimated 30,000 visitors who attended the fair, the organizers also donated 300m of pizza to charities to support those in need.
